I. Am. Legacy is a native-led nonprofit organization based in Rapid City, SD that provides healing for individuals who have experienced a traumatic event, abuse, crisis, or hardship.

I.ndigenous Am.ericas Institute of Legacy (I.Am.Legacy) is a grassroots, system-impacted collective of commUnity members dedicated to serving, advocating for, protecting, and empowering the future changemakers of the next seven generations. We are reclaiming power by raising our voices within a system that has long avoided accountability for the harm inflicted on Indigenous peoples and communities of color—both directly and through oppressive policies and programs.

Our vision is rooted in the wisdom of our ancestors: to draw upon generations of knowledge in Health, Wellness, and Healing to confront and overcome the modern-day struggles, hardships, and injustices our people face.

Programs and Services

The I Am.Legacy movement seeks to add to its base with Social, Political, Economic and Educational structure by building capacity within CommUnity rather than without! This includes surrounding Tribal Communities; the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, all of which make up the greater percentage of Indigenous community members in Rapid City, South Dakota.

 

We believe that culture heals, and the Lakota culture is the root of our prevention, intervention, outreach, and healing services. We rely on these core Lakota values:
